Eco-printed silk scarves & textile art, printed by leaves

Long eco-printed coral-red cloth hanging from above, with one large pale leaf near the top and rows of smaller leaves along the bottom.

Handmade in Türkiye

Real leaves from different trees, rolled tightly into the cloth by hand and rested in metal-salt solutions, leave their shape and colour behind. No two pieces are alike.

A leaf prints only once.

Eco printing carries the shape and colour of a real leaf into the fibre. What appears depends on the tree, the season, the cloth and the solution it meets. It can’t be planned exactly or made twice, so every piece here is the only one of its kind.

How a piece is made

  1. Choosing

Leaves from different trees are chosen for their shape and the colour they may give.

  2. Placing

Each leaf is laid on the cloth by hand. The arrangement exists only for this piece.

  3. Rolling

Cloth and leaves are rolled together into a tight roll and tied, so every leaf stays pressed against the fibre.

  4. Resting

The roll rests in a solution of metal salts, and sometimes meets heat as well. Different leaves and different solutions give different results.

  5. Opening

The roll is opened and the leaves are lifted away. Their print stays.

Questions

What is eco printing?

Eco printing, also called botanical contact printing, transfers the shape and colour of real leaves directly onto cloth. The leaves are pressed tightly against the fabric, and moisture, time, metal salts and sometimes heat fix their colour in the fibre. Read the full guide.

Is every LeafSilk piece really one of a kind?

Yes. Each print comes from particular leaves, laid out by hand and set in a particular solution, so no piece can be repeated exactly.

What are the pieces made of?

Mostly silk and silk blends, printed with leaves from different trees. We keep trying new cloths, leaves and solutions, so the materials vary from piece to piece. Ask us about any piece and we’ll tell you what it is.

Can I wear them, or are they wall art?

Both. LeafSilk pieces can be worn as scarves or hung as textile art. Ask us which suits a particular piece.

Where are they made, and do you ship worldwide?

Every piece is made by hand in Türkiye (Turkey), and we ship worldwide.

When can I buy one?

How do I care for an eco-printed textile?

Hand wash only when needed, in cold water with a little pH-neutral soap, dry in the shade and keep it out of strong direct sun. Read the care guide.
