About LeafSilk
LeafSilk makes one-of-a-kind eco-printed scarves and textile art by hand in Türkiye, mostly on silk and silk blends, using leaves from different trees.
Who we are
Behind LeafSilk are two people: an artisan who makes every piece by hand, and a partner who looks after the brand and sends the work out into the world.
How we work
We work more like a studio than a factory. Different leaves, cloths and solutions are tried all the time, so each piece records one particular experiment. Leaves are placed on the cloth by hand, rolled up with it into a tight roll and tied, and the roll rests in a solution of metal salts. Sometimes heat is used as well.
What comes out can’t be fully planned, and it can’t be made twice. Some pieces become scarves to wear. Others are better hung on a wall. Read more about what eco printing is and how it works.
What we won’t claim
“Eco print” is the name of the technique. It isn’t a promise about the environment, so we don’t call our work eco-friendly. We would rather tell you exactly how a piece is made.
